Creating a space that needs to be meaningfully inhabited by as little as 25 people or as many as 300 meant that a sensibility of scale was crucial to a successful design. The north and south ends of the building provide distinct experiences: one is a calm, reflective and relatively enclosed area – the other a livelier and more social space. The outcome is a responsive environment that allows the visitor a multiplicity of experience and ensures that St John’s lounge can comfortably cater for groups of various sizes.
